Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi has informed authorities that permission granted by the Cultural Ministry will be necessary to carry out constructions on locations named as world heritage sites.
Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya, Dambulla and Kandy town along with the Galle Fort and the Sinharaja forest have been listed as world heritage sites. The UNESCO has recognized the cultural value in those locations in naming them as world heritage sites. The constructions carried out on such locations affect the historic value of the places. The Minister has advised the officials of the Architectural department and those of the Central Cultural Fund to take measures in changing this situation. The Minster expressed these views at a discussion held with the officials.
