Preparations for the upcoming Victory Day Celebration, commemorating the culmination of war against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), are currently underway at the Galle Face Green in Colombo.
Sri Lanka ended its civil war against the LTTE on he 18th of May 2009 but celebrations for the event – that was sheduled to be held on the 20th of May – had been postponed due to inclement weather prevailing in the island at the time.
Official celebrations are now scheduled to be held on Friday the 18th of June, Director General of the Media Centre for National Security, Lakshman Hullugalle said.
Accordingly, national celebrations are expected to commence at 8 am at Galle Face and end with a 4pm commemoration ceremony, to be held at the War Memorial at the Parlaiment Grounds in Kotte.
A special security and traffic plan is expected to be in place for the event at the Galle Face Green.
