Police have not yet identified the body discovered near the Gangarama
Temple filling station, according to spokesman Prashantha Jayakody.
Jayakody said investigations were being conducted by Slave Island
police. He added that they had not yet uncovered any leads as to the
identity of the killer.
Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne was informed that the victim
was found to have sustained severe head injury. Nearby, police had
found a wheelchair which might have been used by the victim. The media
reported that the victim may have been a street beggar.
It was earlier reported that the police had discovered the bodies of
two beggars. Their bodies were found in Kollupitiya and Slave Island
on May 14. Both victims had head injuries. Despite this, Jayakody said
that as far as he knew there was no connection with the bodies found
on May 14 and the Gangarama Temple victim.
