The Pavilion is gone, but officials in Myrtle Beach say they could have a really big attraction for the South Carolina coast.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported Tuesday that city manager Tom Leath says a company wants to build a 175-foot-tall SkyWheel Ferris wheel.
St. Louis-based Pacific Development plans to attend a meeting Thursday to get approval for some changes needed in the land for the project.
Downtown Development Corp. Executive Director David Sebok says the wheel would be the largest east of the Mississippi River. The wheel would feature 42 glass-enclosed, temperature controlled gondolas, each of which could hold six or eight people.
Myrtle Beach officials have been looking for entertainment options since the Pavilion amusement park closed in 2006.
