The state Department of Health and Environmental Control said Monday it is investigating the death of a woman who was a resident at a Laurens assisted-living home when authorities say she was found sitting in a chair exposed to the sun on a 90-degree day.
Frances Louise Farmer, 67, had a 108-degree body temperature when emergency medical workers arrived at LaForrest Community Care Center at 1:13 p.m. on May 5, Laurens County Coroner Nick Nichols said.
The State Law Enforcement Division said last week it is investigating. No charges have been filed, said SLED spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons.
DHEC spokesman Adam Myrick on Monday confirmed the health agency also is investigating.
LaForrest administrator Sheila McDaniel said she talked to authorities last week and confirmed there was an investigation. She declined to comment further.
