A prolific gun dealer who scooped up illegal firearms in South Carolina and sold them in New York City is headed for 15 years in prison.
The Manhattan District Attorney's office says Dewand Smith was sentenced Tuesday. He pleaded guilty to gun sale and weapons-possession charges in January.
He admitted selling 30 revolvers, semiautomatic pistols and assault weapons to an undercover detective over five months.
Prosecutors say the 33-year-old Smith - also known as "TG" - rented cars and took Amtrak trains to travel between his southern suppliers and New York customers. He was arrested in February 2009 at Pennsylvania Station after arriving on a train from Kingstree, S.C.
