The Treasury has allocated 1690 Million rupees for the direct purchase of paddy from the farmers during the Yala season.
The guaranteed price offered to farmers is 30 rupees per kilogram for Samba and 28 rupees for the Nadu variety. The highest amount of 1300 Million rupees has been allocated to the Paddy Marketing Board. The allocation made for the Department of Cooperative Development is 184 million rupees. In addition, 206 Million rupees has been distributed among the District Secretaries to make paddy purchases through the Multipurpose Cooperative Societies in their respective areas to maintain price stability for paddy.
Since cultivators are given fertilizer at 80 percent subsidized price with necessary irrigation facilities, the cost of a kilogram of paddy is estimated at 20 rupees. However, to maintain price stability, the Government has given the guaranteed price for Samba and the Nadu variety.
