President Rajapaksa has issued instructions to bring under cultivation all land that has not been cultivated.
The President issued these orders during a meeting with the Ministerial Sub Committee on food security and the control of the cost of living. The discussion was held at Temple Trees. It dealt at length on the market conditions and issues which are impacting the consumer fraternity.
Attention was drawn to a programme on cultivating uncultivated land, under a more streamlined programme. In addition to the main two seasons, action will be taken to provide the required seeds and advise to cultivate another season. The President instructed the relevant officials to provide quality seeds to farmers. The meeting adverted attention on the shortage of Chicken in the market. It is also planned to reactivate mills coming under the Paddy Marketing Board.
