A South Carolina judge is being asked to issue a gag order in lawsuits stemming from the deaths of nine firefighters in a 2007 furniture store blaze.
The Post and Courier reports the request will be considered on Thursday after Andy Savage, an attorney hired to advise the owner of the Sofa Super Store, recently discussed the fire on a radio program.
An attorney representing families of Charleston firefighter families wants an order prohibiting lawyers outside the case from discussing it.
Also Thursday, families of some of the firefighters meet with state investigators. The state Law Enforcement Division originally looked only for the cause of the fire but now is studying whether criminal negligence was involved in the deaths.
