Official celebrations to mark Victory Day. Tomorrow is a public holiday

All arrangements are in place for the official celebrations to mark the victory over the LTTE one year ago. The Victory Day Parade will be held tomorrow.

The parade is scheduled to be held at the Galle Face Green. Rehearsals for the parade were conducted today. Around 9000 members of the Security forces and the Police will join in the parade which will be held under the patronage of President Rajapaksa. The parade will consist of a display of all three armed forces including the Special Task Force, the Police and the Civil Defence Force.

Maj. Gen. Kamal Gunaratna will be the Commanding Officer of the entire parade. The Wanni contingent will be commanded by Major Gen. Shavendra Silva while the Northern contingent will be commanded by Maj. Gen. Presanna Silva. Maj. Gen. Chagi Gallage will command the Eastern contingent.

Tomorrow is declared a Special Public and Bank Holiday in view of the Victory Day Parade. Expressing views at the weekly Cabinet news briefing, Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that tomorrow has been declared a Public and Bank Holiday as the government was planning to commemorate the event to pay tribute to the war heroes, organizing the Victory Parade.
