A man threatening to jump off an overpass has stopped southbound traffic on I-77 near the Columbia sewer plant, a spokesman for the S.C. Department of Public Safety said this morning.
"We are working on rerouting traffic," said spokesman Sid Gaulden.
The most severe blockages were on the southbound lanes of I-77 near the bridge over the Congaree River in the direction of Charleston.
Officials said the man was fleeing the scene of a crime in the Columbia area, but had no details.
Shortly before 11 a.m., hundreds of cars were stopped on I-77, as well as on feeders to the southern part of I-77, including Bluff Road.
