Jun 18, 2010 8:01:39 AM - itnnews.lk

President Rajapaksa has stated that to mark the victory that was achieved without firing a single shot against the civilians, the day is being considered as a National Day that unites all communities.

Addressing the National Victory Day function, the President said the government aims to make this day the happiest in the lives of the Northern people. He said the humanitarian operations were launched only to eliminate terrorism. Not a single bullet was fired on civilians. The Government considers this day as a day that united all communities. He noted that a government and the people are prepared to make any sacrifice for the sovereignty of the country.

The President observed that this is an era in which the country needs to be developed after the elimination of terrorism. The public service has six times the number of personnel when compared with the number which serve in the Security Forces. He said if they make the sacrifice done by the security forces during the last four years Sri Lanka can be made the wonder of Asia.

The President noted that the country will be rebuilt to pay tribute to the war heroes for every drop of blood they had shed on behalf of the motherland.

The President pointed out that they only had a heroic past. Now the country has a heroic present as well. Those who laid down their lives are lying forever in the hearts of the people who love the country.
