Anuradhapura is geared to meet facilities of around two million pilgrims on behalf of the Poson Festival.
It was on Poson Full Moon Poya day that Arahat Mahinda reached Sri Lanka with the Buddha Dhamma. It is expected that around two million devotees will reach Anuradhapura to commemorate Poson with the peaceful environment which is prevailing with the elimination of terrorism. All arrangements have been finalized to provide the facilities required by the pilgrims. The North Central Provincial Council, the Anuradhapura Distict Secretary, the Anuradhapura Municipal Council, the Sri Lanka Police and the Armed Forces are jointly organizing these activities.
The Poson committee is drawing attention of the devotees, who are arriving in Anuradhapura for the Poson festival to pay homage at Mihintale and the Atamastana, to several factors. They are prohibited from bathing in the Nuwara Wewa and Tissa Wewa. Warning boards have been put up in the vicinity of these stands. Life saving teams have been deployed 24 hours of the day. The Poson Committee has made a fervent appeal from the pilgrims not to obstruct the freedom of the others and to behave properly.
