India has begun a feasibility study on the resumption of the Indo-Lanka boat service.
“The Hindu” reported that the Indian government had issued the necessary instructions to authorities in Tamil Nadu. President Rajapaksa during his Indian tour expressed consent to the resumption of this service. Accordingly, the passenger boat service between Rameswaram in India and Talaimannar in Sri Lanka, and also between Tuiticorin in India and Colombo, is due to begin.
“The Hindu” newspaper further reported that the feasibility study will draw attention to several matters including the passenger demand for the service, the commercial requirements between the two countries and the fare that should be levied for the service.
