- Proposed Constitutional Amendments
The Bar Council of Sri Lanka, a representative body of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL), yesterday (19) passed a resolution requesting the government to follow due parliamentary process in implementing the proposed constitutional amendments. Instead of presenting them as Urgent Bills.
The Bar Council arrived at this decision at a meeting of its council members yesterday. A council member, who requested anonymity, said the Council had decided to request the government “that all constitutional amendments or replacements be carried out under the normal process and not as Urgent Bills.” Allowing for the legislature to debate and decide on the amendments.
