A Special Task Force will look into the protection of biodiversity.
The Task Force comprising 12 leading state scholars has been appointed on the instructions of Minster Prof. Tissa Vitharana. Its purpose is to consolidate the security of plants and animals. Chairperson of the Task Force Dhara S. Wijetilaka, who is also the Secretary to the Ministry to the related Portfolio pointed out that the Task Force is vested with the institution of action against irregularities. Accordingly the Task Force has to prepare a report after inquiring into whether the prevailing regulations are sufficient. It will be submitted to the Minister within two months.
