The filling of the Dockyard of the Hambantota Harbour with water will take place in August.
Deputy Minister Dayasritha Tissera visited the Harbour to inquire into the progress if the construction. Three anchorages are being built in an area spanning 43 hectares under the first stage. The depth of the Habour is 17 metres. The circle of handling the vessels is 600 metres. A Jetty which is1000 metres long will be built. In parallel to the construction work on the Habour, an oil tank complex is also being built.The China Harbour Engineering Company of the Chinese Republic and the Sri Lanka Ports Authority are jointly involved in the construction work.
