Private Bus Owners Association not to increase bus fares

The Lanka Private Bus Owners Association has stressed that it will not increase bus fares.

President of the Association Gemunu Wijeratne said that the revised bus fares that were to be implemented from the 1st of July have been suspended temporarily. He said that they have to think of the bus owners as well as the commuters. He noted that discussions will be held with the Minister as well.

He said that the final decision in this connection will be made after holding discussions with the Transport Minister. Participating in a media briefing, he observed that the annual bus fare increase will not be made until this discussion is held. He said that semi-luxury bus service will be suspended if the service required by the people is not rendered. The bus service from Colombo to the Airport would be streamlined while the Colombo – Airport luxury bus service will be improved. He said that around 75 buses have been deployed for day and night service. He stressed that people can arrive in Colombo at a low cost of 100 rupees if this service will be improved. He noted that arrangements will be made to provide English knowledge to the drivers and conductors from next month.
