Sri Lanka to test it’s bench strength

Jun 22, 2010 4:12:16 AM - srilankacricket.lk

Sri Lanka will look to test its bench strength in today’s Micromax Asia Cup ODI encounter against India.

The most notable inclusions for today’s game will be the inclusion of the spin twins Suraj Randiv and Rangana Herath. Sri Lanka will go in to today’s match with a strengthened and a balanced spin attack with the inclusion of Randiv and Herath. Sri Lanka’s Chairman of Selectors Aravinda De Silva predicted spin to play a vital role at the tail end of the tournament and the inclusion of those two players can be looked upon as a strategic maneuver by the selectors ahead of Thursday’s final against the same opposition.

Selectors have also decided to give a look in to Left handed middle order Batsman Thilina Kandamby, in place of Thilan Samaraweera. Young all rounder Farveez Maharoof will also have a chance to regain his place at the expense of Nuwan Kulasekara. Maharoof will go with an added responsibility of possibly sharing the new ball against the aggressive Indian batting line up.

Fast bowler Lasith Malinga and Spin king Muttiah Muralidharan will be rested for today’s dress rehearsal for the Asia Cup final against India.
