The National Freedom Front chairman Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa while condemning the decision of UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to appoint an advisory panel on his own initiative has exceeded his powers to interfere in the internal affairs of a country.
The Sec General says that he was led to appoint this committee in view of the accusations heralded against Sri Lanka on war Crimes and breach of Human Rights.
Minister Weerawansa said that it must be however reminded to the Sec General that his proposal to appoint such a committee presented at the human rights council of the UN was defeated by a majority vote. But ignoring a majority decision implementing a defeated motion is puzzling.
He added that the entire world is aware of the humanitarian approach of our forces that defeated terrorism in safeguarding the lives of the civilians used as human shield by their own ethnic leaders. The Government Forces not only protected their lives but also their property.
