A series of special Pinkamas is being organized in the Anuradhapura Sacred city in parallel to the Poson Week.
The “Pattana Pirith” organized for the 49th occasion in parallel to the Poson festival commenced from near the Jayasri Mahabodhi yesterday. It is mentioned in Buddhist history that most Buddhist literature starts off either with four noble truths or “Hethu Pala Vada” that is rationale behind the existence of substance, life and its expiration with the cessation of the cause of existence.
Meanwhile, the annual “Pen” Perahera was staged on a grand scale yesterday. The purpose was to wish for the water required for cultivation with the tanks filled to capacity after receiving rains in time. The “Pen” brought from tanks was placed at the Isurumuni Vihare. Thereafter, the Maha Sangha led by Chief Incumbent of the Ruwanveli Chaithyarama temple, the Ven. Pallegama Hemaratana thera chanted Pirith and blessed the water. Thereafter, a colourful procession carrying the blessed water commenced from the Isurumuni Vihare and wound up at the Satipirith Mandapaya near the Sri Maha Bodhi. Deputy Minsiter W.B. Ekanayake and Anuradhapura Districtr Secretary H.M.K. Herath were among the large gathering present.
