Construction of the headquarters of the 59th Brigade will be accelerated. It is coming up in the Nanthikadal area where the final battle between the LTTE terrorists and the Security forces took place.
The administration of the 59th Brigade headquarters was being carried out in a temporary building which had been abandoned by the civilian. However, a streamlined programme has been launched to vest these buildings in the civilian. Accordingly, construction work on a permanent building to house the headquarters of the 59th Brigade commenced.
The Chinese Government is providing the required assistance for this work. A notable feature is the construction of the building in an environmental friendly atmosphere. Defence Secretary Gothabaya Rajapaksa monitored the construction work. He pointed out that necessary action was being instituted to soon hand over public places occupied by the soldiers to the civilians.
