A former Allen University vice president has filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the Columbia schools president, Charles Young.
Sonya Melton, formerly the vice president for enrollment and at one time Youngs assistant,, has filed the suit in U.S. District Court in Columbia against Young, the university and the African Methodist Episcopal Church, which runs the university.
She claims university and church officials were aware she was being harassed but took no action.
The 17-page complaint alleges that in 2006 and 2007, Young tried to force her into having sex, attempted to control her relationships with others and even choked her.
Melton claims that when she did not respond to his advances, Melton was demoted to associate vice president of enrollment management and placed in a basement office, the suit said.
