Beachgoers can expect to see more than crashing waves and sandy shores on the South Carolina coast Saturday.
Environmentalists say they will hold hands in the surf as a sign of unity against offshore oil drilling. Called Hands across the Sand, the event will take place on about a dozen beaches from Hilton Head Island to North Myrtle Beach beginning at 11 a.m., organizers say. People will hold hands at noon.
Groups involved in Saturdays event include the S.C. Coastal Conservation League, the Surfrider Foundation, the Sierra Club, the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy and the Conservation Voters of South Carolina. For more information, go http://handsacrossthesand.org/organize.php?state=South Carolina.
