The Attorney General has intimated to the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court that indictments against former Army Chief Sarath Fonseka will be filed in relation to the HiCorp financial fraud.
The Attorney General said that indictments will be filed for swindling state funds. Sarath Fonseka who is in military custody was produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court this morning. State Counsel Damith Thotawatta said that indictments will be filed in the High Court against the suspect under the Penal Code and the Public Property Act.
He further said that the indictments will be filed before the next hearing. The State Counsel intimated to Courts that there is sufficient evidence against the suspect. Accepting a request made by the Counsels of both parties, Colombo Fort Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratna agreed that Sarath Fonseka be kept under military custody until the 28th of this month sans sending him to remand prison. The Magistrate also ordered the State Counsel to serve indictments as soon as possible.
