The President chaired a special discussion in Anuradhapura today. It inquired into the facilities extended to the pilgrims arriving at the historic Sacred City for the Poson season. Officials were also ordered to provide all required facilities to the pilgrims arriving in Mihintale and Anuradhapura. Attention was drawn to the supply of food and water to the devotees in addition to a programme on the removal of garbage and provision of sanitary facilities to the pilgrims.
Security sectors were instructed not to cause any hindrance to the devotees in the implementation of traffic plans. In granting approval for the construction of trade stalls in the city the responsibility vested in the Municipal Council to be careful that no hardships were experienced by the pilgrims, was pointed out. He advised that attention should be directed to the reconstruction of dilapidated roads. Members of the Maha Sangha who attended the meeting appreciated the initiative taken by the President to personally visit the area to monitor the programmes unveiled in the Sacred City.
