All rounder Farveez Maharoof and Left handed Batsman Thilina Kandamby has been retained in the team for the Micromax Asia Cup final to be played in Dambulla today. Both Maharoof and Kandamby were tried in Tuesday’s match against India in order to rest some of the seniors. However, Maharoof impressed the selectors by ripping through the Indian batting line up with controlled back of a length bowling. He also went to take a hat trick becoming the 3rd Lankan to do so after Chaminda Vaas and Lasith Malinga.
Champion off spinner Muttiah Muralidharan and Seamer Nuwan Kulasekara will come back in to the side at the expense of Rangana Herath and Suraj Randiv. Selectors have also opted to favor the inclusion of Kandamby ahead of Samaraweera.
Today’s final will also offer a chance for Lasith Malinga to reach the 100 wicket mark as his current tally is placed on 97 wickets.
Team for today’s game: Tharanga, Dilshan, Sangakkara (c/wk), Jayawardena, Kandamby, Mathews, Kapugedara, Maharoof, Kulasekara, Malinga & Muralidharan.
Play is scheduled to get underway at 1430hrs (SLT)
