Satellite technology is now being used for the observation of the environment and the climatic changes in the coastal belt.
A conference on Satellite technology for Environment organized by the Asia-Pacific Regional Satellite Technology Institute opened in Colombo today. The purpose of the workshop is to suitably apply Satellite technology for environment and related institutions and exchange the know-how and technology among the countries in the region.
Sri Lanka, among the nine countries being represented at the meeting had introduced Satellite technology for the first time, free of charge. It was Sri Lanka who submitted plan to Japan to promote this technology. Chairman of the Conference Toro Fukuda presented a special award in this respect to Deputy Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena.
