Government has planned to complete the Northern resettlement process within two months after the removal of landmines. Views in this respect were expressed by Minister Milroy Fernando and Deputy Minister Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan to newsmen in Colombo today.
Minister Milroy Fernando said that only about 40 thousand have not yet been resettled. Even they have visited their places of origin and inspected the situation. The Minister pointed out that all of them would be resettled immediately after the de-mining is completed.
Deputy Minister Muralitharan pointed out that the Government anticipated to complete resettlement within two months. They will be given food for six months and assistance to improve their livelihoods. The Government also hopes to enable them to uplift their living standards.
