Sri Lanka is to host an Interfaith Harmony Conference. Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik has made this announcement in Islamabad.
The Pakistani Interior Minister told the media that the Interfaith Harmony Conference would be held in Sri Lanka next month. Its main objective is to maintain harmony among various religions of the region. Further talking to media persons at the Parliament House in Islamabad, he said that extremist organizations were using religion for their ulterior motives and creating misconception besides pitching followers of one religion against the other.
The Minister opined that modalities were under consideration for formation of SAARC police to maintain peace and stability in the SAARC region. He remarked that the formation of SAARC Police will also be thoroughly overviewed during the conference of Foreign Ministers of SAARC countries. In reply to a query raised by a journalist, he noted that the finalized agenda items of SAARC moot would be implemented in letter and spirit.
He added that ‘SAARC conference remained very successful and will not only resolve various issues among the member countries but also help maintain durable peace in the region.
