President Rajapaksa will hold talks with his Ukrainian counterpart today.
Both leaders are expected to draw their attention to several issues important to the two countries. More attention will be drawn to socio economic cooperation and strengthening bilateral ties. Important agreements related to tourism, shipping, transport and defence will be signed today. The Presidential Media Unit said that President Rajapaksa during his official visit hold talks with several key Ministers and officials.
On arrival in Ukraine last night, the President was accorded a warm welcome. The Sri Lankan President is visiting Ukraine at the invitation of his Ukrainian counterpart Victor Yanukowich. A grand welcoming ceremony was organized at the Kiev’s Boryspil International Airport to greet the President and his entourage. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostyantyn Gryshchenko and the Deputy Mayor of Kiev were among those present to welcome them. First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris, President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunga and President’s Chief of Staff Gamini Senarath are joining the President in this visit.
