The Jathika Nidahas Peramuna (JNP) is prepared to go for an unending fast if the panel appointed by the United Nations is not dissolved. This was emphasized by its President and Minister Wimal Weerawansa at a media briefing this afternoon.
The Minister said the appointment of the Advisory Panel should not be perceived as a simple act. It could be followed by the appointment of an investigation committee to look into allegations of violations of human rights and war crimes. This would eventually lead to the leaders and war heroes of Sri Lanka produced before an international court of justice, he added. The Minister highly appreciated the decision taken by the Sri Lankan Government to reject this panel and also to refrain from granting visas for the members of the panel to enter Sri Lanka. The entire nation should unite at this juncture to totally defeat this move. He stressed that it is a serious offence to interpret it as a just measure of the United Nations.
