Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne has said that the budget has laid special emphasis on increasing agricultural produce.
Participating in the budget debate, Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne said that all agricultural crops can be produced within three months if there is a requirement. He opened the budget debate on the second day today, on behalf of the Government. He said that now cultivation can be carried out in the North and East as well. The budget has provided an opportunity to strengthen the economy and it is the responsibility of all despite party differences to work towards this aim.
Minister Patalie Champika Ranawaka said that there is no need to purchase electricity from India. He said that all liberated areas in the North can be supplied with power by the end of 2013. Wiring will be carried out between Vavuniya and Kilinochchi at the cost of 3.1 billion rupees and in 141 klilometers from Chunnakam to Kilinochchi at the cost of 3.27 billion rupees.
