Jul 1, 2010 9:43:00 AM - thestate.com
Like the USC baseball team, June 2010 in Columbia is No. 1. Unlike the Gamecocks, last month has to share its perch at the top.

Wednesday’s relatively cool high of 85 degrees _ the lowest high of the month _ left 2010 tied with 1952 for the hottest Junes in Columbia history. The average daily temperature for each of those months was 83.7 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

With a cool start, July will have a hard time matching June’s record-setting pace. In fact, the upcoming July 4th weekend could be one of the coolest in recent years. Highs for the next four days forecast in the upper 80s or around 90, with only a slight chance of rain, according to the weather service.

Here’s a list of the top 10 hottest Junes in Columbia, dating back to 1887.
