The Report on the Committee for the Review of the Samurdhi Programme and its institutional structure, has been submitted to Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
The Sri Lanka Samurdhi Authority and the Samurdhi Commissioner General’s Department are the two main state institutions which handles the Samurdhi Programme. The institutional structure should be subjected to improve the quality of the Samurdhi Movement. While solving the problems of the workers of these two institutions, the Samurdhi development programmes should also be studied to effect structural changes to the two state institutions. Accordingly Minister Basil Rajapaksa appointed a seven member Committee headed by Deputy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya.
The dossier was prepared within a short period of 45 days. It was Deputy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya who handed over the Report to Minister Rajapaksa.
