Germany has pledged continued assistance for the development that is taking place in Sri Lanka. Attention will also be focused in expanding trade ties between the two countries.
The German Ambassador in Colombo Jens Uwe Plotner during a meeting with Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne had lengthy discussions in this respect. The meeting took place at the Parliamentary Complex. Germany agreed to give support to Sri Lanka in the tourism, trade and indigenous medicine sectors and agreed to technological exchange programmes. The Germany diplomat expressed his keen interest in supporting the development programmes mooted in the North and East. A top level delegation of German investors is due to arrive in the island shortly to discuss investments in the North and East, following the peaceful environment prevailing in the country.
Expressing views to the media after the talks he had with the German Ambassador, the Prime Minister said that the German delegation is due to reach the country in October.
