The Mahinda Chinthana always safeguards the Public Servant. This was emphasized by Deputy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, participating in the Thulawa Programme telecast over ITN last night.
The Deputy Minister queried as to who cared for the public servant. He recalled that when the President assumed office, the minimum salary drawn by an employee was 7900 rupees. This has increased to 11,730, in addition to receiving an allowance of 5250. He pointed out that he was not saying that this is sufficient. It should further increase. But clearly there will be a salary increase in 2011. Deputy Minister Siyambalapitiya noted that the public workers received an increase of 750 rupees this year. He noted that the government was always prepared to safeguard the public employee.
The Minister rejected accusations that the budget was prepared in conformity to the conditions laid down by the IMF. He underscored that it was a people’s friendly budget prepared drafted without succumbing to pressure from any force.
