The event is being marked under the theme “Empowerment of Women through the Cooperative Movement”. Declared in 1895, the International Cooperatives Day has been recognized by the United Nations and the International Labour Organization, with the aim of focusing attention on the Cooperative System.
Celebrations are being organised at the regional level on the advice of Minister Johnston Fernando.
In his message the Minister said a programme is being formulated to computerize the entire cooperative network. He said the programme to provide goods at reasonable prices will be strengthened through the Cooperatives.
