The President arrived in Ukraine on Wednesday to a warm welcome marking the first official visit to Ukraine by a Sri Lankan Head of State. The background for strengthening the long standing relations in many sectors including defence and the initiation of several beneficial programmes was laid during the visit. The Ukrainian President pledged maximum support for the development process in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan Leader held discussions with the Ukrainian Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister as well. It was agreed to provide the space technology possessed by Ukraine to Sri Lanka and to establish economic and technological relations in several sectors.
The President addressed the Ukrainian National Defence University on Thursday and referred to the incredible victory achieved by Sri Lanka in defeating terrorism. The President was accompanied by First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris among others. The President returns today with many benefits obtained during his three day visit.
