Sri Lankan Contingent Announced For YOG

Two swimmers, two paddlers, two shuttlers and an athlete have been included in the Sri Lankan contingent announced by the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOC) for the forthcoming Youth Olympic Games (YOG) to be held in Singapore from August 14 to 26.
Trinitian Heshan Unamboowe (100m backstroke) along with Madhavee Weeratunga (50m Freestyle) from Mahamaya College Kandy will be in  action in swimming while Hasintha Shashiranga of Dharmasoka College will represent Sri Lanka in men’s table tennis singles.

Dilshan Kariyawasam of Ananda College will battle out in men’s badminton singles event.
Heshan Unamboowe will carry Sri Lanka’s medal hopes in the first Youth Olympic Games.

Each country that participates in the YOG will receive four Universality places. Indunil Herath of Walawa Central will compete in men’s 100m and, Nuwani Navodya of Dharmasoka College and Lekha Shehani of Convent of Lady of Victories will compete in women’s table tennis and badminton respectively. Nishantha Piyasena will take up the responsibility of Chef de Mission and Dilmini Direckze will be the Lady Chaperon. Three coaches and a masseur are also included in the contingent.
