Secretary to the Trade Ministry Anura Siriwardena as said that stringent action will be taken against the traders who mislead consumers by resorting to fraudulent practices.
Mr. Siriwardena said a special programme has been launched to check whether the goods on sale are underweight. Trade Minister Johnston Fernando has ordered the officials of the Department of Weights and Measures to be vigilant on the issue. He said these officials will carry out raids on ordinary shops as well as supermarkets. Both State and Private sector shops will be subject to checks. Legal action will be instituted if underweight goods are detected and the culprits indicted.
