Passenger transport companies have called upon the Transport Minister not to increase bus fares.
The Inter-Provincial Passenger Transport Convention in a missive to the Transport Minister has requested him not to effect the annual bus fare hike based on the national policy. It pointed out that the decision was taken as a measure of support to the development programme mooted by the Government with the total eradication of terrorism from the country. Buses as well as commuters had to confront varius accidents when terrorist activities were rife. However, with the dawn of peace, the situation has completely changed. It is also a strength for the private bus industry.
Various pressure is being exerted to paralyse the country’s development path. As such, the Inter Provincial Passenger Transport Convention pointed out that it is their obligation to be a strength to the President and the Government. As such, it underscored that there is no need to go for a fare hike at this juncture.
