Minister Basil Rajapaksa has underlined that Sri Lanka is strong enough to rise against whatever international conspiracies surfaced.
Addressing Parliament yesterday, the Minister said that not only from the World Bank and the IMF, but the Government was able to get support even from the United Nations in the past. The United Nations meant not only an individual. When there were threats from all these organisations, some collaborated with certain groups of the country and attempted to conspire against the country. However, on every occasion, Sri Lanka had the majority support from the World. When attempts were made to include Sri Lanka on the Security Council agenda, the majority support of the Council was with Sri Lanka which enabled to defeat this move. He emphasized that Sri Lanka will not succumb to any conditions put forward by any country or organization.
The Minister clarified to the House that Sri Lanka possessed the strength it had in the past. He said they are ready to be partners but does not need monitors. They must be partners of development. That is how the international community should act. He said he considered that the majority was doing so.
Further expressing his views in the house, Minister Rajapaksa pointed out that Sri Lankan troops have set an example to all other forces in the World. He said if the so called international community was making accusations against the country, it was not those put forward after the 19th of May last year. They were leveling accusations against what happened earlier. It was the Sri Lankan Security forces and the Police who set an example to the World.
