A driver on Interstate 26 in Calhoun County was killed Tuesday evening when the car he or she was driving was struck by a recreational vehicle head-on.
The 80-year-old victim, whose name and hometown were not immediately available, was driving a Nissan Altima on I-26 about two miles south of Charleston Highway when the RV crossed the median and struck the car, the S.C. Highway Patrol reported.
Although the person was wearing a seat belt, the injuries were fatal, Lance Cpl. Josef Robinson said.
It was not clear if the RV driver, James Rodriguez, 66, of Melbourne, Fla., suffered any injuries in the collison.
WIS TV reported the wreck stalled traffic for hours Tuesday.
The highway patrol is still investigating the wreck.
