The Jathika Nidahas Peramuna (JNP) has warned that they would stage a fast unto death if the UN Panel appointed to advise Sri Lanka is not abandoned. The Party launched an agitation against the United Nations and commenced a fast. It was held today too.
Minister Wimal Weerawansa addressing newsmen at the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna office in Battaramulla said that they launched this protest considering as a prime responsibility on behalf of the motherland, whether or not their party was a partner of the Government or whether or not they held Government Ministerial portfolios. He emphasized that UN Chief Ban Ki Moon cannot take decisions. It is the Security Council or the Human Rights Council that could take decisions. The Minister stressed that if there was no positive response from the UN hierarchy today, they would stage a fast unto death with effect from tomorrow.
