The Government has given a new village to the Thelingu fraternity in Anuradhapura who lived for generations in tents.
A village with permanent houses has been built in the Siyambalagaswewa area in Mihintale for Thelingu families who had lived in temporary camps near the Mahakanadarawa tank in Mihintale. Several problems confronted by this community have been addressed in response to a revelation made through the news telecast over ITN on the tribal lives led by the Thelingu fraternity. It is in response to this revelation that the new village is coming up for their benefit. The action had been initiated by Deputy Minister S.M. Chandrasena. The village built with the contribution of the Samurdhi Authority was opened by the Deputy Minister. This will enable the Thelingu community to live a secure and dignified life.
