Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has claimed that ITN has responded to allegations levelled by the Opposition that State media institutions have distanced themselves from the public and suffered setbacks. The 580 million profit earned by ITN last year was clear proof. The Minister called on the opposition not to talk with malice and hatred, and achieve wretched happiness.
Speaking further, the Minister queried as to how a group which is satisfied over the breakdown of institutions owned by the country can make a contribution to the motherland. He cited ITN as an example pointing out that it is ranked first in ratings. He said it is not Upeksha who is in Parliament, but it is Paba. It was due to the high ratings for Paba of ITN that Paba polled preferences more than Karu Jayasuriya.
Some may debate about it, but it should not be forgotten that ITN had received 580 million rupees worth of commercials last year. The Media Minister emphasized that nobody was prepared to give commercials to a channel which is not popular or rejected by the people. However, if anyone was satisfied over the breakdown of a state institution, it amounted to wretched happiness.
