The political crisis in Male has come to an end following the mediation of President Rajapaksa.
The Presidents of the two countries held discussions about the political deadlock. The Presidential Office in Male announced that the discussions were held last evening. President Rajapaksa was invited to intervene to defuse the political crisis that has surfaced in the country. The Maldivian President thanked his Sri Lankan counterpart to accepting the invitation and arriving in the country at this juncture.
President Rajapaksa extended the greetings of the Sri Lankan people to the Maldives which is a close friend of Sri Lanka. The two Presidents also focused attention on strengthening bilateral relations in several sectors during the discussions held yesterday. The Maldivian President said that the Cabinet will be appointed after detailed discussions with political parties. Accordingly a Cabinet consisting of 13 members has been appointed.
The President returned home this morning, ending his visit to the Maldives
