Columbia Police arrested an 18-year-old Hopkins man Wednesday night in connection with the beating death of 91-year-old Frances Rawl.
Jesse Ray Lane will be charged with murder, said Brick Lewis, a spokesman for the Columbia Police Department.
Police said Lane allegedly broke into Rawl's home to rob him but did not say if any money or other property was missing from Rawl's duplex. They would not say what kind of weapon was used to kill Rawl or if any other suspects were involved.
Rawl's body was discovered Tuesday afternoon by his 27-year-old grandson, Les Rawl.
Les Rawl had gone looking for his grandfather after he did not show up for work Tuesday at the family's golf course on Garner's Ferry Road.
