S. M. Richburg is a retired educator who served as principal of Columbia’s revered Booker T. Washington High School from 1965 to 1972.
Education is always top of mind when voters go to the polls, Richburg said.
That may be especially true now, as state budget cuts force local schools to lay off teachers, ultimately affecting the number of students per classroom and teachers’ ability to teach.
While the teaching profession has changed over the years, one thing remains constant, Richburg said: The need for parents to be involved.
